Review: Prada & Prejudice

Prada & Prejudice

by Mandy Hubbard

Synopsis:

To impress the popular girls on a high school trip to London, klutzy Callie buys real Prada heels. But trying them on, she trips, conks her head and wakes up in the year 1815!

There Callie meets Emily, who takes her in, mistaking her for a long-lost friend. As she spends time with Emily's family, Callie warms to them, particularly to Emily's cousin Alex, a hottie and a duke, if a tad arrogant.

But can Callie save Emily from a dire engagement, and win Alex's heart, before her time in the past is up?

More Cabot than Ibbotson, Prada and Prejudice is a high-concept romantic comedy about finding friendship and love in the past in order to have happiness in the present.

Review:

Let me start off by saying - I hardly buy or read books like this. What do I mean by this? Well, cutesy chick lit. I mean nothing by it, except that it's usually not my cup of tea.

Callie plays your average young teenager who yearns to be one of the popular girls - just to be noticed, really. Thinking that buying some authentic Prada shoes will finally get her "in" with the popular girls, she accidentally trips and falls, only to wake up in 1815! She's mistaken to be a family friend, and that begins Callie's adventure in the time of corsets, chaperones and balls. The last thing she expects is to become interested in Alex, the seemingly-arrogant and cold Duke who happens to live at the estate she is visiting.

This was a cute and fun read! It would have gone quicker, but the holidays rolled around and well, you know how that can be. Funny, I've seen (and now read) many adaptations of Pride & Prejudice, but have yet to read the actual book. That'll be coming up soon. Anyway, really cute adaptation. It is predictable, but what can the reader expect when you don't even have to read Pride & Prejudice to know the story? I quite enjoyed the story and it made me smile and laugh as I followed Callie into the frustrating world that is 1815. I recommend this to anyone who wants to take a break from reality and is able to enjoy a fun story!
